  1. Just going to revive this thing from the dead instead of making a new thread. I still play on the Faerie (NA/EU) server, mostly during weekends and occasionally after work during the week days. Came back to FFXIV just in time to not know what the hell is going on and finding out that Heavensward is coming out in about 3 weeks with a new max level of 60(?), 3 new jobs and 1 new race (just a reskinned Miqo'te imo). Still main an i128 MNK and then a side job of PLD (iLevel not worth mentioning lolol). If anyone plays on Faerie, or would be looking to move servers, you can find me under Koda Ala'moda
  2. I have most of those picked already, with the exception of a few. The Kingston V300 series I've been getting a lot more replies from buildaPC reddit saying that I should avoid getting that product. Something to do with a bait and switch scandal where they initially put it so that the V300 SSDs have an exceptional read/write MBps but then some sort of firmware update drastically lowered them down to 120 read/write as opposed to the average 200 read/write people had initially. That being said, I decided to get the similar, albeit $10 more expensive, Crucial MX100 SSD
  3. I don't plan on doing extreme multi-tasking. Just simply running FFXIV and then Word or PowerPoint when I'm not doing that. I'm not streaming, recording or anything. Possibly running Skype in the background or something, but not very much going on at the same time.
  4. I was looking at a Gigabyte 990 mobo, is that worth the money? I've heard that Gigabyte and ASUS both have low failure rates which make them a reliable board, although I'm not sure if that alone makes them effective.
  5. under $900 would be best. at least for components, peripherals aren't needed right away
  6. Intel is out of my price range is really the only reason. From what I hear, the 8350 is a good cheaper alternative to say, an Intel i5-4k
  7. Thinking of getting the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UDS3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 g x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD mobo instead of the MSI 970A, opinions / comments / concerns? Also, I hear mixed reviews on the Kingston V300 series, is that something to be worried about or should I look else where for my SSD?
  8. Server: Faerie I opted for the "MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 960 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card" which runs about $240 USD from Newegg.com Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ AMD 970 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W FD6300WMHKBOX PSU: CORSAIR CX series CX750 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI GPU: MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 960 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Cooling Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition CO-9050009-WW 140mm High Airflow Case Fan CPU Fan + Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan SSD: AMD Radeon SSD Radeon R7 RADEON-R7SSD-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive External CD Drive: ASUS DRW-24F1ST/BLKBanana JerkyAS DRW-24F1ST 24X SATA Internal DVD-RW Tower: Enermax Ostrog Black Case with White Trim Is there anything else I need? I'm not sure about the MSI 970 Gaming mobo, well more specifically, does it have an HDMI output? Also, (really noob question) can I just buy a normal 21.5 - 22" LCD monitor and plug the HDMI into it and go from there? PCPartPicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vCTzdC -> minus 1 MSI GTX 970, I must have accidentally clicked "add" twice. So overall, that alone would run me $800 or so (if I take into account shipping and handling on the parts) From what I've been told by friends, the parts I've picked are pretty good and this machine should last me quite some time (which is a good thing since I don't plan on building another machine any time within the next 10 years lol. I can definitely do upgrade, but I'm not going to make a whole new machine.)
  9. Hi, I'm attempting to build a gaming desktop (but would also be used for general use like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, etc.) and I'll admit I have near zero machine building knowledge. I do have a goal set in mind, which would be trying to run Final Fantasy 14 at high quality without it chopping around or anything like that. I'm currently in the parts buying process, so I'll list what I have here so far. - Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming - CPU: AMD FX6300 Vishera - PSU: Corsair CX750 750W - Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) - Hard Drive: WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" (internal HD) - Cooling: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition CO-9050009-WW 140mm Apart from that, I have literally no idea what else I need. If I can get some tips or suggestions, that'd be great. Thanks.
