Ultimate-Sensation

Another one bites the dust

Disclaimer:

  1. Before I start, I'd like to thank Dissolved, Foxer and everyone else who's still in Ancient Spirits right now and was promised that I'd help out with the guild when the server merge occurred.  I'm very sorry I let you guys down, but due to several reasons, I just honestly can't motivate myself to play the game anymore. I wish you guys the very best and hopefully I'll try and stay in touch with you guys <3.
  2. I'd also like to thank all of my friends that have helped me make every "short stay" as of late as enjoyable as possible. Loads of my friends (James, Suruj and Victor just to name a few) have really helped my ass every time I've come back to the game and you honestly don't know how much I appreciate it.

Short version

I'm getting older and I'm casually losing interest in the game. I haven't been on in awhile and I thought "hey, this is the perfect opportunity to leave this game once and for all". There are a lot of things that motivated me to actually get going with all of this "quitting" crap which you can read down below if you're bored af  :^)....

Long version

So before I begin, I'd like to say that I have nothing against Ankama personally and you have to understand that I've been playing this game since 2006/2007 (so I've been supporting their ass for quite some time). A major part of this post is going to be me basically rambling on about a lot of things, so I'd appreciate it if you gave it a good listen.

In 2006/2007, I started playing DOFUS, made my first ever character (a vitality sram called Big-Morese, lmao) on Rushu and legit just enjoyed the game, killing Gobballs and shit with a couple of real life friends who played the game as well, at the time. I can't tell you how fun the game was back then, there was no Incarnam (so you were just thrown at astrub right away and you had to find your way through the game by actually exploring the game and all). Over time, my friends and I started exploring more aspects of the game and eventually the server "Shika" came out. As soon as we found out the server had free p2p for about a month or so, my friends and I decided to hop on there and from there, we made our first Shikian characters. Long story short, we had a lot of freaking fun, explored a lot of p2p content that we've never explored before because mind you, when we were on Rushu, we were always f2p. The game content was more enjoyable than ever since everything was new to us (natural process eh?) We casually ran gobball dungeon together (even died a couple of times lmao), ran field dungeon, larva dungeon and just legit did so many things together as a group of 5-6 friends. Oh and don't get me started on Heads hunting, that shit was the bomb (this is coming from someone who legit got screwed over so many times while he was heads hunting on his noob intelligence cra).

This is a video of us casually running a dungeon together on Shika at one point lmao... I seriously can't put to words how enjoyable the game was back then.

And another one that my real life friend made while we were running blop dungeon

However, fast forward a couple of years ahead, the Intrusion occurred, I lost all of my gear on my main character at the time (my sadida, Heavenly-Brambler) while I was on holiday  and Ankama refused to give me any of my items back despite having more than enough evidence to prove that I was basically fucked over during that period. I was pretty effing annoyed over it and eventually decided to quit DOFUS for a good year or so before I came back. Eventually, I started playing with a chance Sacrier (Xo-Xo) who leeched people at Firefouxes all day long. I was super inspired by his build and class to the point where I decided to create my own Sacrier, Ultimate-Sensation. This sacrier would eventually become my main character in the game and he's been the character I've been using for the past 6 years or so.

I decided to create a guild (after several failed attempts) with a small group of friends. That guild was later on called Ancient Spirits and eventually became one of the largest guilds on Shika at one point in time (#MarkZuckerbergSuccessStory2k17), I won't lie, but throughout the entire period of actually running the guild, the game was basically x200000000000 more enjoyable for me, as it allowed me to actually pvm, pvp and chat with a group of friends who had similar interests to mine.

However, over the years, Ankama has slowly killed its 'solo accounters'  base (in my opinion) with a lot of updates that I was not very fond of. I won't get into the details of things as most people know exactly what I'm talking about. But basically, I got into DOFUS initially because the game was simplistic and was enjoyable. It was not complicated and was not "challenging" to the point where it legit made the game very hard to play. You could log on at any time of the day, message anyone in game and you could run a dungeon with them and enjoy the dungeon run as a whole. But with the release of things like frigost 3 and above, solo accounting in the game has become almost numb. It's not easy to play as a solo accounting Sacrier and to find a group of people who'd like to take your character out to run through these dungeons (as the dungeons for example do not require a sacrier).

Over the years, there's been a clear show of class bias that was not as prevalent during the old DOFUS generation.  This aspect along with other aspects such as: making it harder to actually make kamas in game as a solo accounter, really made it harder for me to actually progress in the game. Soon enough, the game reached a point where I could not do anything on my own anymore, I had to rely on multi-accounters to take me through things and most of the time, those dungeons felt like chores more than anything. They were not fun, required x20000932903209320320 tries in order to beat the dungeon boss ONE time (as they had very low success rates) and legit made the entire gaming process extremely frustrating as a whole.

Moreover, Ankama released a lot of content that promoted competitiveness within the game and although I did initially enjoy things like AvA and Kolossium, those too became more of a multi-accounting fest more than anything. AvA honestly brought out the worst in people during most of it's significant and prominent time (or at least on Shika it did). It ruined loads of friendships for me and made the game extremely un-enjoyable to play. I won't deny and say I wasn't part of the problem (because quite frankly I was), but I will say that Ankama did not have a "fully proof" system put in place for AvA and allowed a lot of illegal multi-accounting to occur within the game (which basically fucked the game over for me at this point).

But Saif, how did it fuck up the game for you at this point?

> Put yourself in my shoes, I was basically a dude that barely played Dofus and relied heavily on Preceptors to actually gather up mats for certain things as it was basically impossible to run those high level dungeons as solo accounting Sacrier at the time. However, on numerous occasions, people would just multi account the fuck out of those preceptors and would basically spam kill preceptors over and over again to the point where I could not even gather up mats to actually craft shit that I needed. Thus, making it harder for me to progress with the game.

> Eventually, I got annoyed and sent multiple screenshots of people multi accounting those perceptor fights to Izmar/Support and they legit did jack shit about it, which took the piss.

> The game reached a point where it was unplayable due to the multiaccounting crap in perceptors/prisms, so I eventually decided to move to Rushu just to take a break from everything that was going on around me.

> While I was on Rushu, I barely played because of uni and eventually I was held back by a couple of updates. I soon realized that the new content that was being released was basically too fucked up for me to even bother with as I did not have the time, energy nor the gear to deal with that sort of crap.

So now comes the interesting bit, the revelations!

Disclaimer: Before you read this part, I'd like you to understand that I do not like promoting botting, but I'd like you to understand my point of view on things before you say anything.

There was a period in time while I was still on Shika, where I decided to try professioning as a source of income. However, that too was cut short as there were too many bots on Shika. Time after time, I sent print screens to several moderators telling them about the bots that were basically lumberjacking and farming everybody's shit. Nothing was ever done about it for the most part and if anything, Shika was filled with more bots than players at one point. I never understood why people signed up to become moderators if they were not willing to actually deal with the bots that are in game. But anywho...

Long story short,  Shika reached a point where it was impossible to actually farm effectively and efficiently in the game since the moderators were practically useless at one point in time. I decided enough was enough and eventually decided to bot on my level 200 sacrier (Ultimate-Sensation). The botting program allowed me to pretty much do everything the bots could do and since Ankama was not dealing with the botting issue at the time, I found no reason for me to actually stop botting. I decided to use the program for around a good week or so and eventually got to level 200 lumberjack and farmer because of it.

Funnily enough, several people on DOFUS use the same sort of strategies to get themselves rolling in the game due to the lack of commitment that is shown by the moderator team. And heck, I don't even blame them.

I'm going to finish off this big wall of text by listing the good aspects and the bad aspects that I've experienced over the 10 year period I've been around here.

Good aspects:

  1. Extremely successful game (DOFUS was never meant, nor expected to become this big initially)
  2. Pre-frigost 3 content was solo account friendly for the most part and was very enjoyable.
  3. Heads hunter and the pvping system back then was some pretty top notch shit. They removed it because people were complaining they were getting aggroed while they were professioning (maybe they should have turned their wings off, eh?...)
  4. Community is pretty well knit for the most part and is one of the best I've ever seen in a game tbh

Bad aspects

  1. The new dofus is not noob friendly, so good luck trying to get new players to come into the game. Even if you've got it on steam.
  2. Dofus's moderator team is very inactive for the most part (or at least on Shika they were). Thus, loads of normal players use botting programs themselves in order to compete with the farming bots that are present in the game.
  3. Dofus has become extremely competitive over the years and has reached the point where people are always comparing dick sizes with each other.
  4. Certain people *cough* not going to mention any names over here *cough*, have been scamming millions (and have probably made billions of Kamas in profit) off of people on DOFUS and NOTHING has been seriously done about it.
  5. I legit feel like Ankama just doesn't care about the community and/or is seriously stubborn about certain things.

Conclusion

What was once a good game based on exploration, friendship and dungeon running with a group of friends has become more of a competitive game, where people shit talk behind each other's back and promote drama 24/7. The game became a lot more difficult than before and has lost a lot of the essence that it had around 6/7 years ago. I don't hate the game and don't get me wrong, I've made a lot of good friends over here, I just don't see myself ever coming back to it with the direction Ankama is going.

I started playing this game when I was around 12/13 years old and now I'm 21 years old, it's been a fuckin' emotional roller-coaster and a beautiful ride, I won't lie.

It's been a pleasure you guys, but the addiction is over~

Yours sincerly,

Ultimate-Sensation AKA Saif
