Yep, it's back - Pokemon Hard Mode, aka the Pokemon Nuzlocke Challenge. This thread is a continuation of the first one on the old Imps board initially started by Jake Leaf! Leaf wouldn't have started it if it wasn't for me! -Jake

Getting started:

You will need:
- An Emulator, found here
- Snag yourself a ROM from any of the websites out there
- An image hosting site (I'm currently using Imgur, I'd suggest you use it too!)

1. Load the ROM; File -> Load.
2. Hit File -> Screen Capture perform an automatic screen capture.
3. Play through the game as normal! To set the keys go to Options -> Joypad -> Configure -> 1... If not, use the default keys set by VBA.

Those who are unfamiliar with the Nuzlocke Challenge rules, here goes:

- Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
- The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
- Each Pokemon obtained must be nicknamed when available

Ah cool, I've been waiting for this to return for a while now. I still have the save on my Sapphire run from the old imps, but I think I'm gonna start afresh. I'm going to make this a single pokemon run instead of a nuzlocke though, since my previous runs usually involved me overfocusing on 1 pokemon and leaving the rest out. So that leads us to this....




Yes, I shall be conquering Kanto with only a Pikachu!

Thanks Jake, glad to hear it! I'll post an update once a few more folks start posting so this isn't just a two horse race.

Also, Blue, watch out for Brock. That'll be an interesting one to see!

Yeah, Brock was a right [insert curse word here] to beat, but I managed it somehow, although it was a good thing I stocked up on potions earlier. So thats my main annoyance out of the way up until Giovanni that is, but thats not for a while yet so I'm not worrying about that (yet...).

I have never used so many potions this early before... ever! (and yes, I did give my Pikachu a dofawa!)

If you're doing a solo run, grinding seems absurdly necessary. Especially since pikachu is a very, very awful pokemon.

Having failed a solorun of yellow, its time for me to do another run! I'm using standard nuzlocke rules this time.
I shall be nuzlocking... *drumroll*


I was going to nuzlocke soulsilver on my DS, but the webcam quality is AWFUL, so I decided to do this instead.


Sticking with my Dragonball name theme that I used last run.

Going with the water pokemon this time (which is strange for me, seeing as I usually pick fire, oh well)

On LeafGreen and FireRed, you're going to have to use savestates. Just click file, Save Game, and pick a slot. Or Shift+F1 or any other number.

Thanks. Now I get to start over again. Is saving the same for all games? Because I realised i've beaten fire red quite a few times

Some, not all. Its always a good idea to use a savestate as well as a normal save.

Can you explain the difference to me? I'm confused. lol

Edit: I hit Shift +F1, then file exit. I went back in VisualBoyAdvance.exe opened it up looked at the save spot it wasnt there.
