It's Our Birthday!

That's right, break out the cake! Imps is two years old today smile.gif If that confuses the hell out of you, I don't blame you! We announced we were turning two years old last year, too, but I think we have it figured out now ;-) Last year we counted in time from our predecessor community, Amakna Square -- but it was actually just one year since we moved away and changed our name, back then.

And so, Imps is officially two years old today smile.gif

It's been a hell of a trip with you guys, and we're still growing and running strong. Thanks to everyone here for that! Here's looking forward to another one ;-)

You read it right --

Imps is giving away 50 WAKFU BETA CODES!

The staff has been pouring over the best way to give them out. I thought Ebay was by far our best option, but the other mods disagreed and said that we should just give them out to just our friends. So we met halfway, and decided to do a CRAPTON of mini-contests on Imps, and each of the winners will get a beta key! (yes, yes, ebay and the friends thing was a joke. Try to keep up.)

The Contests
This post will be edited each time we open up a new contest, and the new contest will be posted in this section. So keep checking, because some of the contests may only last a couple hours! Dates may not be accurate in all time zones -- check each contest for details.

Limerick Contest - Ends Monday June 16 - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57999
Ready, Set #1 - Ends Friday June 13 - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58082
Art Contest - Ends Wednesday June 18 - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58220#
Supporters' Lounge Contest - Ends Wednesday June 18 - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58309
Stalk the Mods - Ends Thursday June 19 - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58445
Word-Filter Hunt - Ends when all 5 words are found - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.ph...=58881&st=0
Stalk the Mods #2 - Ends when all 10 mods have been caught - http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59042

Requirements to Win
Only Imps Village members in Good Standing are eligible to win. We define "in good standing" as anyone who's never been banned from Imps before, who only has one Imps account, and whose membership is not currently in question among the mods.

You also must have a minimum postcount of 10 to win. We want to reward our members who actually take the initiative to post here and be part of the Imps community! If you're new or haven't posted enough yet, it's super super easy. You could try making a thread in The Imps Village Airport to introduce yourself, you could post a friendly welcome in others' threads in the Airport, you could join in a few games in our Fun and Games forum, or comment on some of the diverse threads in General Discussion. It doesn't take long to get 10 posts here!

Limit 1 win per Imps Village member. Only one code per person-- sorry! If you've won once, please don't enter any future contests.

How do I use codes?
Due to the extremely large number of codes I'll be giving out, I'll be sending you a PM with just your code, if you win. As much as I'd like to write a personalized congratulations note for every winner, 50 is a lot of people to write notes to smile.gif

Once you get your code, go to http://game.wakfu.com/en/inscription-beta-test/ to enter it in and associate it with your Ankama Games account. In my experience, this doesn't work in Safari -- so mac users may want to try Firefox for this part.

After that's done, you can proceed to http://game.wakfu.com/en/download.html and click to download the game. You'll have to log in with your Ankama Games username and password!

Let the contests begin! :D

Alright, so I must admit up front, I'm doing this almost completely for selfish reasons ;-) As those of you who frequent that General Discussion forum know, I'm very seriously considering starting my own web business for allowing people to run dedicated game servers (No, not Dofus game servers -- this time I'm not joking!) for ridiculously cheap prices.

Before I go head-first into this, though, I need to know how the different systems I'll be offering will stand up to massive game traffic. And so, I'm hosting another Unreal Tournament 2004 event on

NEW DATE: SATURDAY, MAY 24, AT 3PM GMT

If you're bad with time zones, here's a quick breakdown:
US West Coast: 8am (sorry D:)
US Mountain Time: 9am
US Central Time (MissMarie): 10am
US East Coast: 11am
England: 4pm
..and everyone else will have to figure it out from there.

You'll only be able to participate if you have a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004. As nice as it would be if everyone could go out and buy it, that's just not reality here ;-). Those of you who have (or will have) downloaded versions of the game will still be able to connect. The server will be set up in such a way that it won't report you to Epic Games if your CD-Key isn't valid.

This is a test, it isn't all just fun and games. I will require everyone who's playing to be on IRC, because I will be testing two to three different servers during this test and you all will need to be there to see what to connect to next. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to stop a game in the middle if I don't have to -- but just realize that there may be interruptions between games. I *need* to know what these boxes can handle.

For details about my (possible) new startup company, information on how to get/install/update UT2004, and for future plans: Please visit my thread about it in General Discussion: http://www.impsvillage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55946

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT: Please post to the thread I just linked and let me know! I want AT LEAST 12 people, but I would LOVE to have up to or beyond 32 if at all possible.

Thanks everyone!

The following is an April Fools' joke. It is completely made up and absolutely not real in any form

Even though over half of this thread talks about this being an April Fools' joke, even though April Fools' is in the TITLE of this thread, and even though the words "April Fools" are in a HEADING in this first post, there is still a fairly large group of people who still believe this is real. If you fall into this category, know now: this is not real. It is a joke. You should definitely not write a ticket to Ankama about it. They've already gotten over 40 in the past two days.

If you're not familiar with what April Fools' day is, it's a holiday observed by most of the world's civilized nations on April 1st every year, where it's fully acceptable -- even encouraged -- to play pranks and get people to believe things that aren't true, for fun. And so, next year, we'll do something equally crazy as this. Preemptively, you shouldn't send tickets to Ankama about that one either.

------------What follows is the original April Fools' post------------

Private Imps Village Dofus Server Is Online$@#&!!!!

Whew. I gotta calm down a little before I type this, or ya'll won't be able to even read it :D

After over a year of work, my dream is finally real. It's everything the huge blue letters say it is. A private server. Just for us. You log in with your Imps account info. It's working right now, running on the very same server hosting this website. This Dofus server is OURS, programmed from SCRATCH, and holy bajeezus guys, I can't tell you how much of a relief it is to finally be at the point where I can announce it :D. I could cry :'-)

But enough of all that. Let's talk about features. Because seriously, what's the point in a private server if we're not going to mess with it? :D
  • 5x experience!
  • 2x drop rates
  • Far, far, far less lag than even the American server
  • All crafting professions start at level 50
  • Each incarnam quest gives you two levels :D (Sorry, I tried getting all new characters to just start at level 20, but it confused the hell out of the client.. boo hiss. More about why I can't modify the client below)
  • Royal Gobball has a 2% chance of dropping the ENTIRE Royal Gob set to everyone in your party :D :D :D :D (Assuming this goes over well, I'll do the same thing at around 1% or .5% for prespics and treechnids and stuff smile.gif)
  • The Royal Tofu ... ... is totally worth a shitload more now :D. lol, I'm not telling what happens :D
  • COMPLETELY FREE TO PLAY FOR REGISTERED FORUM MEMBERS
Guys, I can't tell you how proud I am of this. It was an absurd amount of work, but we've needed this for a long, long, loooong time. And it's OURS. So that means if you have any suggestions or you really think the server would be better with more of a certain item or higher drop rates or something like that, just say the word! If others agree with you, I'll make it happen. No more goddamn repetitive grinding, my friends :D

So before you start pounding me with questions.. let me answer them :D

Isn't this illegal!?!??!
NO. :D If I had stolen the server code from Ankama, it would have been. But I programmed my own game server from scratch, and it just *cough* happens *cough* to work with their Dofus client ;-). If there's any French law that makes that illegal.. well, French law doesn't apply to the US of A, and that's where I am smile.gif

When can I connect!?!?
I just got this up and running like 45 minutes before this post. There's a huge, huge potential for us to blow our bandwidth here, so right now we're just testing. I've given each of the forum mods and a few people on IRC access to our game server, and I'm keeping a very close eye on the numbers as we play. I took today off from work for this, so dammit, this better work out smile.gif Assuming the average transfer rates stay at what I'm projecting them to be for our forum, we shouldn't have any problem. Expect a full release tonight :D

How does it work?! Are you releasing a modified client!?
NO. I haven't modified the client in any way. Doing that is illegal. Which sucks -- because that's the one thing holding me back from doing some seriously insane stuff in this game. What I *have* done is come up with a script for Mac and Linux (The Windows one still needs some work, according to the mods.. but don't worry, I'll have a bug-free version by the time I'm ready to go public today smile.gif) that modifies your network settings. What happens is, you run the Dofus client, and when it tries to connect to the server, your computer reroutes the connection to a dedicated IP on the Imps server instead -- the client has no idea that what it's connecting to isn't the official server!

Can I still play on the official server once I install this?
YES! Just run the script again, it will undo the changes, and the Dofus client will connect to the official server again!

What happens when April fools updates the client?
Well.. I'm not sure. There's a really really good chance that the new client won't work with our server, so at first, you'll probably want to keep an old copy of the client on your computer. BUT, assuming it's not an Earth-shattering update, I should be able to program all the changes into our server within a few days. And if Ankama releases a test client, our server may be ready for the official update at the same time theirs is smile.gif

Keep checking back here -- I've encouraged the testers to report how the new server's doing for them, so if everything's A-ok, I'm throwing one hell of an in-game party tonight :D
